I'm a single white male, 40, from England. This woman contacted me via www.othersingles.co.uk in August 2004. Over the months from then until February 2005 I received 91 emails from her. I'll say straight off that I do not know this is a definite scam, but there is something wrong, and I'd urge anyone in contact with her to take care. Over that many emails, obviously a good relationship had built up. From early October 2004 we tried to arrange meetings, but I had to cancel twice - but communication kept on. Eventually I managed to arrange to go and meet her in Bratsk in February 2005, which she was very enthusiastic about. Two days before I was due to fly out, she emailed me to say her father was ill and she would be out of Bratsk, and asked if I could rearrange my trip. Obviously it was too late by then, but it did make me a little suspicious, especially as she had never mentioned the Christmas and New Year cards I had sent. I did a background check on her and received the reply that no-one of her name and date of birth was registered in Bratsk, and the address she had given me belonged to someone else. One of the friends I made in Bratsk actually lived on the same street, just a few apartment blocks away, and called round just to confirm that Maria wasn't living there. Maria did contact me when I returned from Bratsk, saying she still wanted to meet as soon as possible!! But since that email from her, I've had no further contact. I think she must have re-read my latest emails where I asked what was going on, and realised there was no further point. However, what is odd here is that she never once made any suggestion, however slight, that I should send money. She was happy to meet wherever was convenient, with no extra desire that she come to visit me at my expense. During her father's 'illness' she never asked for help with medical expenses. So I just do not see what she was hoping to gain. In hindsight, I could have noticed earlier, as she said she had no mobile or home phone, but in one of the pictures she is holding one...I overlooked that, telling myself it could have been her friend's phone, or the phone of whoever was taking the picture. I still don't understand this, and probably never will. She has lied about her address and name/d.o.b. but never once tried to obtain money from me. Only one of her emails looked to be a version of standard ones often seen, but that was her second letter to me, so could easily have been just passing info to me until she knew me better to write personally. Neither the emails nor the pictures were particularly suggestive, and I really thought this was a genuine woman. She talked about normal things, including the Beslan incident and the recent tsunami, just regular conversation. But clearly there is something wrong with the situation. On a good note, I had a marvellous holiday in Bratsk, made some new friends, and met a woman who I am going back to visit in July!! Adrian

Then I became suspicious and have been playing along and acting like I am waiting on the funds to be able to forward them to her. I don't know what you can do about this, but I want to alert someone to this situation. I have not sent any funds to this person, but who know how many others they have been in contact with. Recently (1 1/2 weeks ago), I recieved an email in my yahoo account from a russian woman who was looking for a relationship. She seemed innocent enough but I recieved emails on a daily basis to me. After only 6 letters she stated that she was in love with me and wanted to visit me in the US. All this time I had repeatedly requested to talk on the phone and she would make up an excuse as to why she couldn't. She would not provide her last name, nor her postal address. Eventually she was fixated on the subject of visiting me and getting a visa, that she would not answer many of my questions. All she would do is mention how much she missed me and loved me. The last email I recieved was her suggesting that she may need help with paying for her ticket and for her visa expenses. Naturally, I know not to just send money. I also am aware that getting a tourist visa for the USA is all but impossible, yet she claimed to have gotten one in a matter of days. I emailed her using a different email account and pretending to be a guy named Matt. She was more than interested in cooresponding with me as Matt. That pretty much convinced me that this girl was too good to be true. She did not scam me into sending money so I dont know what kind of report I could file with any authorities, but I wanted to let anyone know of this persons illegal intentions. She used the email address of blondeinka2014@yandex.ru and used the name Svetlana. She asked to be called Lana. I've read many articles on Elena's website and knew better than to fall for such silly tactics. Well here is my story, so hopefully others will see the warning signs and not fall for a scam! -Eric (kcmurr)

I have some excitement concerning all it, but also I have firm intention to meet you dear! Therefore any difficulties and charges of money, will not stop me. Here is the final email and the reply to my email stating that a visa is too hard to get and that I should visit her.
Hi my dear! Excuse me that I did not write to you the letters. My girlfriend did not have access in the Internet, because at her have disconnected the telephone. And consequently I could not send you the letter during several days. Today having seen your letter I very much was delighted. I hope you has not taken offence at me and still want me to see. I am glad to welcome again you and I with impatience wait, when I can tell to you HI - personally. Thanks for your message. Eric, my day was very intense and is very tired. I reached in office of agency and signed with them the contract. In conformity with the contract, the agency will prepare me for all documents for travel, to buy for me the ticket and to deliver me to the plane. From my city there are no planes to you and consequently I all over again will need to reach to Moscow, and therefrom already to you. My agent needs some information for a route of the plane, inform me dear, the address and the nearest airport to you to which I shall arrive. This information is necessary tomorrow that the agent could develop route and to establish all cost of travel. My story is following:

1. She works for a flower shop and furniture shop her monthly income only $200, and her mother passed away in her 12 years old , after her mother dead, her father remarried with another woman but the relationship between step mother and she is very bad, almost cats & dogs, so she run away from her parents and rent a flat alone, her only friend books and music. for that reason,she wish she would run away her hometown and even Russia and her only wish is to create strong family to get married with honest sincere man, she called them as 'the right person'.
2. She consistently emphasize her "mum" from the HEAVEN pray for her happiness,and she tried to give me the impression that she is a very religious parson.
3. She also requested me to send me the money by Western Union, and she also knew about the workings of Western Union than I did.
4. She already had a passport that she says she once had a schedule to have a trip to Turkey with her friend but the plan ended up only a dream.
5. She required $3,700 for her airfair for her cheapest ticket via Paris to Narita, Tokyo.
6. She told me that she has her own her mobile phone and urged me to call her up immidietly,and actually I talked with her in very poor English.
7. Although her English ability of speech is very poor, she invited me Yahoo chat,after a short conversation by phone. While I chatted with her at Yahoo chat, I found myself understood that I was speaking with another person coz her writing English skill is far more excellent than her speaking English with phone.
8. She very quickly proclaimed her love for me and included poetry, and her message is always monologue style.
9. She promised that she would all the money for the fund money for tourist VISA .she said she sure pay back all the money when she would arrived in Japan.

Later, I find that she pulled a previous successful scam using the name: Ekaterina Gribkonva, 25 Lenina, Sosnovskoye, Russia 646811 ekat@nc.ru near Omsk Russia. All her letters were nearly identical to her previous scam, and the photos all match as well. She claimed to have found a coin from 1704 worth $2,000.00, and that her father owned an apartment that he was going to sell for $28,000.00, and give us the money. Her scam involved asking for Visa money and Airline tickets. I never sent her any money, as Western Union alerted me that she was under investigation for fraud. When I confronted her about this, she denied any wrongdoing. She wrote a couple of more e-mails, then stopped writing altogether. She initiated her scam by contacting me at imatch.com. 1) Tourists visa. It allows me to come to your country for period from 2 weeks till 1 month. It cant be prolonged and on the expiration I have to back to Russia. It costs about 210-250 dollars USA depending duration and including ensurance and neccessary medical tests and other.
2) B-2 visa. It calls "visa of the bride" also. Its good for period from 2 weeks to 3 month. It can be prolonged maximum for 2 additional months and then I also have to back to Russia. It costs about 340 dollars USA including all services. 
3) I forgot a name of this visa. For approve it we both have to visit Russian Embussy at your country and fill some documents. This kind of visa allows us to get married. I can't get it and approve it at my country. We shall get it for my next trip if we decide to get married. Any kind of visa will take 2-3 weeks to be ready and approved. My dear James, how do you think, which visa is better for us? I was really sad to know that visa costs such money. Tommorrow I will write you news about a cost of the ticket. My love James! I love children very much. My dream to have two children: boy and girl. I am so happy to get your letter and I am so happy that we becoming closer to each other. All night I thinking about you and about us, I turned on few times the light to read and reread your letters. Its very great that people can meet each other throught Internet and write letters to each other just every day which can let them know more about each other, to make fellings and empathies. I am so gald to meet you in my life and I am planning to meet you in person. I am very serious in my choice. I dont think that longterm correspondence will help us as much as personal meeting. I dont like to speak about financial, it does not good in Russia, I dont brought up such, and my parents teach me to consult with it only by myself, and if I ask someone about something, it mean that I thought a lot about wheather to do it or not. So I thought a lot about is this good or not to ask you about help, but I hope for your understanding because I do it only for both of us and for our happyness. My dear, during the time of our communicating, I understood that we have feeling to each other that I can call LOVE. Such feelings between people become not only from nothing and from lots of thought, analyses of relations, understanding and mutual help. With every day I am becoming surer in my choise and in you. I was at cash of airport department today asking about cost of the tickets. I dont think that tickets can cost so much! I dont sure in choice of date, but I asked about cheapest tickets that exists. Its costs about 870 US dollars. So, here is information about ticket: Depart Irkutsk (IKT) 8:00 am. Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 4:50 pm Wed 20-Apr. Airlines: Aeroflot-Russian International Airlines 750 / 321. Connect in Moscow (SVO). Unfortunately for that moment its really big money for me. As you know, I saved up some money, its about 160 dollars for the ticket and all money for the visa. So I need about 710 dollars more. Its really hard for me to find now such money by myself, it will take about half of year more. I thought a lot about how I can get such money to make us be together. The best idea was to sell a coin, but when I come to pawn shop, a man there said me that maximum price is about 220 dollars, that he can give me for it. He advise me not to sell this coin, because it costs more money that he can give me. He asked why I need to sell it and I told him about you and about my visit. He was surprised, and said, that I have to take this coin with me and in America this coin can cost more then 2000 dollars depending a place of selling. And he advised me to ask money from you. I dont know now where I can get such money. Will you help me with it? Its really unpleasant for me to ask you help, but I its seems I have to do it for both of us. I will take a coin and will present it to you so you can do what you want with it. I dont know a lots about how to send money but if you are interested I will ask it from my cousin, she sent money few times for my aunt from another countries. What do you think about a date of our meeting? Which is the best? The easiest for me is to take vacation at the next month. Please write me your opinion. My sweetheart James!!! I just so happy to have such great frieand and soulmate as you! Every night I thinking about you, sometimes I can't sleep thinking of you! You can't imagine, how much do you mean for me! You become so close man for me! Today we had a greatest holiday of out town. There are lots of flags, baloons, fireworks and shows. I was so sad, that you were not with me, I would like to hug you or just keep your hand. That so important for me now, that's my dream. I like such holidays. All people look very happy, and we have some sport meets. We have a great sport centre in our town, where I like to go to do for sport. Today I talked with my cousin about us more and she is so happy for us! I ask her about transferring money, she said that the best way is to use western union system and she said, that everybody in America know how does it works. I did not hear about this system of money transferring and I just searched Internet for this to read something about it. I was in bank and the clerk has told to me is necessary to use number (MTCN) in transfer of money . You will receive this number at bank and you have to give it to me. I need this code, your name, your adress and your zip code to get money. The clerk has told that without MTCN it is practically impossible to receive money. Its seems all information that you need to send me money is my name and my surname. You know my name and my sirname is: Brusova Please let me know is this information enough for you? My dear James. I have been shocked with your last letter! I so need your understanding these days! I have read your letter today and could not answer you. I can't believe it. I have begun to cry and have run at home. Other people looked at me but it was indifferent for me. I have run to my aunt and have told to her about your letter. I cried all time. I wanted to not write to you more. My aunt has become angry about me. She has told: "stop to cry as the little girl and write the letter to him, there can be it a mistake". James, I cannot believe in it! I never received money from anybody! I never used the Western Union! I always was fair with you! I do not know why the Western Union has told to you such awful things about me. I do not know as to explain it. There can be someone used my name and the address? I do not know!
