short email from Marina.She told me how she loved my profile (it actually is very
vague, with little info on me personally). I decided to reply to her out of
curiousity, and she replied back with her picture and info about herself. She claimed to be a
school teacher. She told me about her good friends Katya and Carl. Apparently
Carl is a German fellow who met Katya by the internet, and they were moving
together to Berlin. She told me about her mum and dad, her dog Bobik, her lost
love Igor, etc..
She really went through a lot of work to make these letters so personal.
I thought sending a picture of her dog was a nice touch. Anyway, I became suspicious
because despite all the questions I asked her in my letters, she answered only
maybe to one. She kept telling me how much she loved me, missed me, and
needed to be with me. She started sounding very obsessive, still I thought maybe
she is just desperate to get out of Russia. Well, the last letter confirmed what I
was trying not to believe. Every place in the email where my name appeared was
replaced by an error message: %TOFNAME
It was a form letter. She forget to enter my name. See for yourself:

After this, I decided to just do an Yahoo search on the name Marina
Mihailova. The search led me to the blacklist website and I saw that others
had been decieved by this fake Marina. Fortunetly I didn't send her any
money or gifts. I hope this story helps others from getting scammed.

My name is Chuck Parsons, I am a divorced man, 44 years of age, and am
employed by the Federal Government as an aerospace engineer. I was initially
contacted by "Marina" after she saw my personal on Match.com on 12 November
2001. In her 12th letter dated 8 December 2001 Marina requested money in the
amount of $290 for the purpose of obtaining a visa to the U.S.. Her aunt "Olga" is
supposedly employed by a travel agency in Moscow and could see to it that her
visa application went quickly, but she needed the money the next day. I did not
send money, instead I began researching how money could be sent and making
sure it was delivered to the right person. In my search, I stumbled across the
BlackList and began to recognize the patterns. I contacted Western Union and
they said if there is any question, "Don't send the money". I wrote back telling
Marina I had to go out of town on business and would not be back for 3 days.
When I supposedly got back (I never left, just needed more time to study the
game), she sent another email requesting the money again. By now, I was sure
she was a phony. The letters I received from Marina were nearly word for word
what Dan put on the BlackList in the 13 December update. The first and the
"money" letters are attached as .txt files below. I then told her that until she
answered all the questions I had asked in my last email, there would be no
money. She failed to answer the questions so I sent her a note titled
"LastChance" which is attached below. She sent the letter titled "Questions" at
that time (see attachment).
Marina even called me on 14 December at 0715 CST and asked me to send her a
letter, then quickly hung up after stating she only had one minute to speak.
I sent her another letter all right, this one referenced letters I had seen
in the BlackList, and I even posted some excerpts from the list to let her
know I was on to her, and everyone else would be as soon as I could notify
the free email providers of her name, address, and all the rest of the
information I had on her. She provided me with an address: Russia Orenburg's Area
Orenburg City Gagarin Street, 25-99
When she asked for money, it was to be sent to the same Avangard Bank that
Dan listed in his posting. I receive the same pictures as Dan, plus a
couple of others that I am attaching to this message. Even though I did not
send any money, I went ahead and purchased the AntiScam Guide, and am glad I
did. It will definitely come in handy. I have not become disheartened by
this experience, but I will go into the next situation with my eyes WIDE
OPEN!!
Thank You for this service, and I am hoping more people hear about it. I am
going to request match.com, kiss.com, datadate.com, and others post this
website as a warning to those that express an interest in meeting Russian
women in these free sites.

I believe that I have discovered another scam. I'm a 29 year old single father of 2 children, and work in the Information Technology field.
Originally, back in May, I was contacted by another scam (which I didn't know at the time) artist I see featured on this site. That was Elena Karaseva, from Magdan, Russia. After several letters, I sent her $220 USD. She continued to ask for money a few letters after that, and when I wouldn't send her money, I never heard from her again.
Now, in December, I received an e-mail from someone named Marina who supposedly lives in Omsk. I replied to her first letter, and she responded back. She has not asked for money yet, but in her second letter she mentioned a village named Eblanovo. That was how I found your site. Being curious as to where this village is, I did a search for it and came upon your page. The text of the letters was nearly exactly the same as Lyubov Gavrilova from Novosibirsk, Russia. I learned from my previous experience, though. If she'd asked for money, I would not have sent it! Her letters:

I have just returned from a trip to Lugansk from the
Medeia Agency is lugansk 12 Dec 2001. I want to contribute further to the scam that is going on there.
Unfortunately I have paid nearly 1000$ before I realised what was going on. The
agency keeps 30-40 ladies in a catalogue, however they are all busy. I
traveled there to meet a girl that I had been corresponding with for 8 months but when I
met her she never knew me. The agency employs translators 4 girls to write all
the letters themselves to as to make sure men from all countries will come and
visit. The asst Manager is a lady called "Irina" who controls everything, the office
is a house turned into an office, all they wanted from me during my visit was
money, money, and money. They tried to ask for 300$ dollars for international
passport for the girls, actual price only 70$, they book taxis for you 20 times more
the price than a normal cab. The lady I met did was not able to communicate with
me, and was not aware of anything about me. They use people the girls are not
real and do not exist.┘ I have much more to tell however I am so angry at being
lied to for 8 months and had all this money taken from me. DO NOT USE THIS
AGENCY it is a total scam!!!

I ran across a profile on match.com that I was concerned about not being honest.
the user name for the profile is mila251. I contacted this profile and it led me to
another site: www.skybusiness.com This company is called interchance. It is a
marriage agency in Odessa Uk. The girl's profile is on page 51 of their website. I
contacted this girl and she sent me a couple of letters back and then asked for
me to pay for the correspondence. I was suspicious, but curious so I sent the
minimum (70.00) for one month of correspondence & translation. I have not heard
from her since - this does not surprise me and is the result I expected. I wanted to
know the site was fraudulent and the cost to find this out was minimal. But I want
to tell others to watch out for this website and it seems that your website is a very
good place to warn others that may see something that appears to good to be
