Read to Your Children

Reading time is a great type family time to have. It should be enjoyed by all, so make it special. Read to your children in a tree house. Make a tent out of blankets and chairs, and grab a flashlight and a scary book. Hot chocolate by the firweplace will work well too. The first step is to turn off the T.V. and throw out the video games, or at least limit them. They lower your child's reading and comprehension skills when they are chosen over reading. When you have instilled the value of reading into your child, they will develop a love for books. You have given your child a priceless gift. The benefits are endless. Reading often will give your child a broader vocabulary, better comprehension and retention, as well as expand many learning skills. They will have an easier time succeeding as an adult. Do not limit your reading time to the night hours. Instead of turning on the television, encourage your child to read for entertainment, or for educational purposes. One of the best gifts you can give to a child is their own library card. They will feel like you trust them. It will give them a sense of responsibility. They will also become more interested in books. Going to the library should be as exciting as going to the toy store, for your child. If it is not, keep reading to them, and let them pick out the books! Children need our attention. They crave it and will do just about anything they have to, in order to get it. Sometimes they will act out to get our attention because they need it so badly. By reading to your children regularly, you will get to know them better. Let them pick out the books they want you to read to them. It is easy to learn their interests this way. If you have stopped reading to your children, start again. You can re-capture the bond you had as parent and little child by reading to them once again as they have gotten older. After all, they are still your child, and still seek your love and attention.
