Fortunately, I'm not an easy target. I don't know if I was necessarily skeptical
at first as much as just cautious. The real shame of all this is that I *just* saw a
show on TV where they discussed all these horror stories of internet love
affairs. One of the guests made the comment that everyone on the internet lies.
I was fairly outraged at that comment, as I've had a certain amount of
experience dating on the internet. I've been on-line for probably 7 or 8 years,
and have met a majority of my romantic involvements sine that time over the
net. So far, I have to say, my experience has been pretty good. In the last two
years alone, I met with two women from Italy, and various others from accross the US, including some from my own city.
This particular experience began only 2 short weeks ago, in early February of
2002. I had once upon a time joined an internet dating service called
Neodates. Not even a full membership, just a freebie trial thing. I received
a notification from this service that I had new mail. The mail was from a user
who called themselves TNT2001. The note was typical of the ones I've read
here, stating that she would like to get to know me. My very first hint was
from when I went to review her profile on Neodates, that TNT2001 no longer
existed. First red flag.
Not being one to automatically jump to conclusions, I responded to the email,
which was a mailru.com email address. I responded with the typical superficial
stats about myself. Of course asking questions of her along the way. On the
second day following my email, a reply was sent which went into more generic
information about her. Not addressing any of the questions set forth in my
email to her. Also a great deal of dialog regarding the necessity of trust. Red
flags two and three.
After another couple of emails from her, in which none of my questions were
answered, and where she asked questions I had already answered in previous
emails, she proclaims her love for me. Now, I'm not a total cynic, and I can go
along with love at first sight, been there, done that, have the tee shirt to prove
it. But along with the other elements, these were all just red flags four through
ten.
Her sixth email to me she closed by stating that she would visit the nearest
travel agent to find out about a visa. The Next email was when the request for
money came. I have to give this person credit, they are good at playing on
human nature, and how we so often have misplaced senses of obligation.
here's the excerpt from the email:
Well, I searched for the visa one Still yesterday and to me it is necessary to
pay to 47 dollars the Visa And registration for 21 dollars, I have left in
embassy and in me, There were 50 dollars in hands, I have told them, that I
have 50 dollars and Them have told well, give 50 dollars. And me have begun

See what they did there? Good job. She went on to say that she requires
another 394 bucks to complete the process. But by suggesting that she's
already given 50 bucks to start the process, it creates in the mark (supposedly
me in this case) a sense of obligation..."gee, I don't want her to lose her fifty
bucks," ...or, "wow, she paid fifty bucks already, this must be for real..."
Something along those lines. Pretty smart.
There were several other things along the way that aroused my suspicion.
Such as conflicting personal information. In the first letter, she was
'blue eys and white hair'. Her picture showed her as a strawberry blond. OK, I can go
along with that little variation, it's a language thing, white=blonde maybe....oops, what's this, in her commentary on the picture she says the
picture doesn't show her green eyes. OK now, wait a minute.....
It's easy for me to see how so many people get suckered into these scams. I
don't want it to be true either. How flattering it was for me a guy of 42 to have
this young beautiful woman attracted to me. And what a blow to my ego to
find out it was a scam. Despite my suspicions, I still found myself thinking
about this person during the day, and developing an attraction, and even an
affection for her. It is probably easy for a lot of guys to lie to themselves, and
not allow themselves to see what's real.
Fortunately, I have lost no money, and won't suffer any real emotional pain as
a result of this. I know a lot of guys have lost a lot in the past, and many will
lose a lot in the future. Just be smart guys. Don't let your ego blind you to truth.
The short emotional pain you'll feel as a result of seeing the truth will be
a lot easier to handle now. If you follow through, and get scammed, not only
will you STILL feel that pain of the emotional loss, but you'll have the
humiliation of knowing you were duped, along with the financial loss. Do
yourselves a favor, see it for what it is, and take the fifteen hundred bucks
you're about to be scammed out of, and go on a trip to Daytona Beach. Trust
me, it'll be less expensive, and you'll come back feeling alot better about the
whole thing. Who knows, down there, you might even get screwed the good
way.
Do I think these scams are predominant, probably not, I've seen the .5%
statistic, which might be optomistic, I'm sure it's likely higher than that. But that
still doesn't mean that most people on the internet, including women seeking
American male companionship are dishonest. I just hope in my case, the girl in
the pictures isn't involved. She has a sweet and innocent looking face. It would
be a shame if that beauty concealed the heart of a callous and calculating thief
who would play on the emotions of another human being. I prefer to think
she's not involved.
I have a small amount of internet security knowledge. Hopefully enough to be dangerous to the people who are perpetrating these acts. After deciding to take some positive action, I began to analyze the emails I
received, and I've determined the internet service provider being used by these people. Not the mail system mind you, I
know it's an anonymous email system. I've actually determined the company that provides them with their internet access. I have
sufficient information now to identify these people, with the help of the ISP. I
have also located via your website one other person who was victimized by
them, and in his case, actually lost a substantial amount of money. As I actually
lost no money, I would have no real complaint, but since he has, we might be
able to get the cooperation of the appropriate authorities, and are moving
forward with that objective.
I encourage anyone who reads this to feel free to contact me regarding your situation, and I'll help you isolate the proper
information. It is necessary to have the original email messages, as I need the
hidden information within the message. Additionally, I'll try to help put together people who have been scammed by the same
perpetrators. And no, I'm not charging and there's no hook. These sneak

At this time, I've not revealed myself to the scammers, and still am in their
confidence. I have in general only delayed the sending of any money (as far as
they're concerned) until I determine if this is important enough for the
authorities to become involved in and actually try and set a trap. I can use
some help if anyone can provide it, as far as what legal authorities in Russia to
contact, and any other resources in Russia that might be interested in these

friend that works at the bank and her name is Tatyana Naumova. The letters I
have received are exactly the same. her father and mother and her faithful
companion a dog named Rex, the love poems and request for money for the
visa. And lets not forget the best part Her uncle is a pilot that lives in
Valdivstok and can get her discount prices on tickets. She had made contact
with me through match.com Fortunately I am a bit cynical and was not taken
in .I did save the Photos she had forwarded to me and I thought that I would
share them with you. The e-mail address that Olga was the name she was
using is olga1001@fromrus.com I hope this helps someone out before they
are separated from their hard earned cash.

agency. "Olga" contacted me on November 11, 2001. Apparently, she was responding to
a profile I had posted at Match.com (the e-mail address she used was
"Olga_200@talkmatch.com.") BTW: My Match.com profile did *not* include a
photo.
Here is her initial e-mail:

I responded, and she then sent me another e-mail with a photo. (Eventually,
she sent me a total of 12 photos, and 1 sound file.) My reaction was that she
was much, much too young for me (I'm 45) -- my guess was that she was in
her late teens/early twenties. I informed her of this, but she persisted. She
claimed that she was 27 years old (which I didn't believe), and that our age
difference didn't matter to her.
I was suspicious. Nevertheless, I decided to "play the game." The correspondence continued. I remained suspicious, mostly because of the age
difference (why would such a beautiful young woman want to "hook up" with
a man 18-25 years older than her, when she could readily find someone much
younger?), her beauty (why would such a beautiful young woman want to commit
to a man whose photo she has never seen?), her frequent evasive answers to
some questions I had asked her, and how quickly she decided that she was "in
love" with me. In addition, the sound file she sent me never mentioned my
name...she referred to me only as "My Darling." (To me, it was like receiving a snail-mail letter that opens with "Dear Occupant.")
Then my suspicions peaked when she began sending me e-mails that hinted at
money. Here is an excerpt of one of them:
...But before our meeting it is a lot of difficulties. I have the girlfriend
which work in travel agency. She has told me that the visa in USA which resolves
arrival for 3 months to cost 350 dollars. It is very expensive for me.
My salary makes 60 dollars per one month. Therefore I think that our meeting very much
will be not fast. I need many months to save the sum of money for trip. I
become very sad from it. We so far apart. Between us huge ocean, but in
ideas I always with you. I love you very much. I grieve without you very
much. I shall be closed now...

I am concerned and puzzled by your last few letters: They all are
focused on the details regarding my sending you money to help you to get your visa
and airplane tickets. You seem to be in a rush -- a *big* rush -- to come over
here. But we have been communicating with each other for less than one
month. This is a very short time -- *too* short to make such an important
decision.
Soon thereafter, she broke off communications with me. Her last letter
arrived on December 14, 2001. I, of course, concluded that my suspicions
were correct: This was an attempted scam. But I did not fall for it, and she
decided to move on to her next potential victim.

Looking back on it all, the one thing that perplexes me is how she initially

had never posted her profile on Match.com, plus my feeling that she would
*not* spend the money to subscribe, I remain puzzled as to how she discovered my e-mail address.

that Svetlana Verevka had sent to me and also give you photos that she has
listed on various profiles at other agencies. The address that she gave to me is
the exact one from a report on her on blacklist from Feb. 2, 2002. She
currently has a profile listed on WW agency ( www.ukrww.com ) and is 18
years old and lives in Lugansk and goes by the name of Marina. This person
also has profiles posted on Match.com under the titles PrettyMarina (18yo.),
winnypux1 (22yo.), ksenia (21yo.) which are all the same person. She also
has profiles listed under Friendfinder under ksenia_ua (23yo.), svetaformarriag
( 24yo.) . She also has profiles listed at AbsoluteAgency under the names of
Marina from Lugansk (# A1556080 - 18yo.) and (# A1072007- 19yo.). It seems as if she can not remember her own birthday.

I' am a single male living in Minnesota. I first started receiving letters
from this woman back in November 2001. She contacted me thru Lonelyfire. She
seemed really truthful at first. Told me that her parents died in a car
crash 5 years ago and that she lived with her older brother. She said she
was born 10-27-78 and that she had just finished college at Kiev National
University, majoring in Foreign Languages as an English intrepetor. She did
speak English very well as I spoke to her on the phone several times. We
seemed to get along very well. She suggested that we meet because there
would be no reason to correspond unless we were compatible. She also mentioned that her brother had a boyfriend who
worked at the airlines that could get the plane ticket at half price.
Well, on December 28, I sent her $600 which would cover the plane ticket and visa. The
money was sent thru Western Union, in her name, and address which is: 8
Bubnova St. apt 33, Kiev Ukraine 03040. Her phone number is 380442442175.
The next day she e-mailed me and said there was a problem. She said that she
could not get the plane ticket in her name and that she would have to pay full
price for it, and would I send her $400 more? I said I didn't have the cash, but I
would buy a ticket here in the U.S. and send it to her after she sends back the
money. Well, she said that she would but I have yet to see it! She hangs up on
me when I call and she only responded to one of my emails and said that her
aunt died and that she would send it back in a few days. That was January 15
and I haven't heard from her since. I contacted Lonelyfire and they pulled
her profile. Here is a letter from her and another photo. Thank you, I hope

I am a single white male who first contacted Viktorya Alexandrovna ( 20yo.)at
Match.com. Her address which she gave to me is Schorsa street, house 68, apt
32, Polvata Region, Kremenchug, Ukraine 39601. Her original e-mail address is
vIKASISTER@talkmatch.com and Viktorya@ukrpost.net . Her most recent e-mail
address is has just changed to vika@vas.com.ua. Telephone number is 38-05-366-2-26-43. I originally wrote to her at Match.com under the profile name
of vIKASISTER. As you can see from her letters which I will forward to you that
she is a scammer as she is trying to get me to send her money for visa,
passport, ect and is madly in love with me already after a few letters. It also
appears that she has another profile listed at Match.com com under the name of
vika_krem in which she is only 18 years old this time, as the photos are the
exact same ones that vIKASISTER has sent to me. Please add her to your
blacklist.

Nataliya Sed (Ulyanovsk, Russia) who is mentioned in the 1/10/02 Scam issue,
is also working through Match.com through the name of Ylia. She used the same
pattern as she did with Daryl. She fell in love with the third letter, and requested
money for Visa in the sixth letter. I knew it was a scam by the second letter. Her
photos were the same as she used under Nataliya. Beware of this women!!!!
